How To Measure Your PD

What is Pupillary Distance (PD)?

Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance in millimeters between the centers of your pupils. It's a critical measurement used to align the optical center of each lens with your line of sight—ensuring clear, comfortable vision when wearing your glasses.

How to Measure Your PD at Home

The average adult PD ranges from 54mm to 78mm. Your actual measurement may vary slightly. For best accuracy, measure 2–3 times and use the average.

  • Step 1

Stand approximately 8 inches (20 cm) away from a mirror, or ask a friend to help you at arm's length. Repeat the measurement 2–3 times for accuracy.

  • Step 2

Close your right eye and align the "0" mark on the ruler with the center of your left pupil.

    PD measurement step 2
  • Step 3

Close your left eye and read the number directly over your right pupil. This number is your Total PD.

    PD measurement step 3
  • Step 4

To get two separate PD values (for each eye), measure the distance from each pupil to the center of your nose. This is helpful if you need Dual PD (OD & OS).
